Flexibility advantages through modular special design
Each special machine is developed in close coordination with you and combines proven components with tailor-made adaptations – for maximum process and cost efficiency.
For the machining of large or particularly tall workpieces, we size the gantry, table, and Z-axis precisely to your part dimensions; on request with a lowerable working area for deep milling and through-cut operations.
The table system can be configured as a continuous vacuum table, a full-surface T-slot grid, or a combined clamping station, and allows quick changeovers between aluminium, acrylic glass, wood, composite materials, and foam.
Thanks to the multi-table function, the worktable can be split into two zones. In the front zone the machine can mill while the rear is cleared and reloaded. Once the cycle is complete, the rear zone is activated and the finished workpieces can be removed at the front.
Additional units such as a 360° swivel saw, a second milling spindle, or a drilling/oscillating head expand the machine with further machining processes as required.
This results in perfectly tailored solutions for automotive and aerospace, model and mould making, sign and display production, as well as the furniture and plastics industries – each system a one-off, engineered for your specific task.
Adjustable working area
The servo-controlled table section can be lowered by several hundred millimeters, depending on your machine size. This creates additional clearance for tall mold cores, complex negative molds, or clamped frame profiles. The current height is stored in the CNC and can be precisely repositioned at any time via recipe recall. This allows you to machine deep 3D contours, through-holes, or blind pockets without reclamping. At the same time, the ergonomic working height improves handling of heavy panels, reduces setup times, and ensures reproducible accuracy in toolmaking, moldmaking, and lightweight construction.
Milling & sawing in a single setup
The second drive unit accommodates a 300 mm saw blade that can swivel continuously through 360 degrees. This allows miter, separation, and format cuts to be performed directly next to the main spindle – without a tool change or additional machine. A fully enclosed extraction hood and integrated tool monitoring keep chips, sparks, and heat input under control. Typical applications include aluminum composite panels, sandwich panels, light metal profiles, or GRP moldings, where combining milling and sawing in a single operation provides significant time and quality advantages.
Safe operation without enclosure
A multi-beam laser safety field moves synchronously with the gantry position and continuously monitors the danger zone. If the operator enters the zone, the feed stops within milliseconds; after leaving, the machine automatically resumes. This keeps the table accessible from three sides, allowing long panels, doors, or frames to be fed easily without having to open heavy safety covers. The system is certified according to EN ISO 13849, saves floor space, simplifies material flow, and still ensures CE-compliant personnel safety even at high rapid and working feed rates.
Flexible clamping system
With interchangeable vice units, you can clamp profile and block material within seconds: Pneumatic jaws provide consistent, sensor-monitored clamping force for series parts; manual versions are used when individual pieces need to be fixed variably. A quick coupling allows tool-free exchange of entire carriers and can be combined with zero-point plates or vacuum zones. This keeps the machine equally prepared for aluminum profiles, solid blocks, or pre-milled semi-finished products – without lengthy retooling and with reproducible process reliability.
From the idea to the customized Harmuth CNC – special machine
After presenting individual functional modules, the following examples show complete special machines that we have precisely designed, built, and commissioned to meet the requirements of our customers. Each system combines proven Harmuth technology with custom adaptations in size, clamping technology, and automation.
The Vertiform 4000-2 combines a 4000 x 2000 mm working area with a fixture consisting of pneumatic vices. This fixture can be mounted quickly and easily when required. Aluminium or plastic profiles can be clamped along their entire length. The vertical layout facilitates front-side loading and saves floor space.
